Memory Project

The archive –  150 interviews – 10 countries – 4 continents

The Memory Project, launched in 2015 by documentary filmmaker Réka Pigniczky
and Hungarian-American community organizer Andrea Lauer Rice, aims to preserve
the stories of Hungarians who emigrated to the West after World War II and the
suppression of the 1956 Revolution. Over the past years, the Memory Project has
processed more than 150 personal stories across 4 continents and 10 countries. Six
short excerpts and three documentaries have also been created from Memory
Project interviews, and the online archive has been used as a historical source in
several scholarly works. In 2017, the archive was awarded the Friends of Hungary
Award.
